WHAT TO WEAR FOR A SUCCESSFUL HEADSHOT PORTRAIT? | ANJEANETTE PHOTOGRAPHY PHOENIX AZ

In the most successful headshot images,

attire is simple with well-fitting lines and has neutral colors.

best headshots phoenix business portraits professional pictures arizona

Classic examples are dress shirts and blouses, with or without ties. Blazers, Sports Jackets, and suits...really consider what you wear to work. What are you wearing when you greet clients? Or to events, opening, concerts, and shows? What you wear in your headshot should be recognizable in person, yet not take away from your face. SO yes, it is both neutral and identifiable. I know I know...did I just contradict myself?

For example, a tuxedo would be overkill if you normally meet with employers and employees in a great Ann Loft sweater and tee. Are you on-brand in company logo tees? Do you show up to galleries in eclectic shawls and fantastic art piece jewelry? What about paint-splattered jeans and tailored shirts? Your headshot should also convey your professional personality. Start with a favorite top item, and in your session, we can run through 2-3 different top choices ranging from fancy to casual. Starting in a favorite piece will help you feel comfortable. And unless you want a full-body shot- don't worry about shoes. Wear flip flops, heels, sneakers, or heck be barefoot if it helps you feel relaxed. Nobody will know and I won't tell! For more example of what folks are wearing in headshots head over to my website and look through the images:

Or wear your uniform! For some, the uniform is a specific company issued uniform, for others it is the outfit you were when you get the job done- and that speaks volumes to potential clients.

Patterns are fine- only avoid very tint stripes or houndstooth. large stripes and patterns are fine but small ones can create optical illusions called moire on images. Bold bright colors may express your image, skin tone, and what you do best, The only colors I ask you to avoid are coral and hot pink. orange is fine, pink is fine. when combined the result is not flattering to most skins

no coral.jpg

Because what should stand out is YOU:

YOU are your business’s image.

Editorial & Environmental artists headshots | Rone | Jeff Bertrand | Abby Coppage | Jason Webb

Why do visual and musical artists need professional headshots? Because your work, your brand is a business- and you want to be taken seriously by fans, galleries, publications, and more! But what artist wants a stuffy old fashioned portrait of their face that says nothing about what they create?

Environmental headshots are a fantastic way to break out of the box and tell the story of your business in a real and fun way. For visual and recording artists this is vital to connect them to their fans. A headshot isn’t just a picture of your face- they can tell a story of your art, what you do, what values matter to you, why your company is different, and why folks should choose your work. And its important that they match your brand!

Environmental Headshots are great for artists websites, press releases, Artlist & Daisie profile pics, Etsy about me info, blogs, business cards, LinkedIn, and any media you can imagine.

Rylee Mcguire Student Doctor | Peoria Arizona Headshots | Anjeanette Photography Phoenix

Had a great session with Student Doctor Rylee McGuire here in Peoria, Arizona. As a medical student Rylee is interested in osteopathic medicine, a distinct branch of medicine in the U.S. emphasizing the interrelated unity of all systems in the body, each working with the other to heal in times of illness. She has a calm easy demeanor and a fantastic smile, which makes me so happy for her future patients!

They will be in excellent hands.

A Student Doctor’s application headshot is one the most important photos of your career, it puts a face and shows attention to detail the evaluating doctors look for in your application. It’s not about how you physically ‘look’- it’s about the effort you took to get more than an easy snapshot on a phone. Your grades and work are most important obviously, but if the decision is between two applicants you have to consider anything that can give them reason to think twice about you. The fact that you took the extra step to obtain a professional, polished image, at your time and expense adds value to your application presentation! You want to show you always bring your best- I can help.

Having a high-quality headshot when applying for a medical residency program is vital to being accepted.

According to Forbes magazine, regardless of the business you are in, a blurry, low-quality or poorly cropped photo can convey sloppiness and a lack of attention to detail.

We realize that there’s absolutely no relationship between practicing medicine and having a good headshot, but many viewers equate a bad headshot to poor service, e.g. “if this doctor doesn’t care what his/her headshot looks like, why would they care about my problem?” A quality headshot makes a physician more personable. Patients want to relate to their doctors, which in turn fosters a sense of trust.

Had a fantastic session with Arrowhead Family Dentistry last week for Doctor's and Staff headshots! Everyone did an amazing job. I was so impressed by the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere- I usually have a bit of dental anxiety. Ok, I get a lot of dental office anxiety to the extent I get worried about even going to dentists offices! But everyone in the office was so easy going and friendly I was completely at ease.

Recently the Arrowhead Family has grown- new doctors, Drs. George and Natalia Hariri have joined Dr Grace Heir at the practice. Dr. Georige and Dr. Natalia were born and raised in Tucson, AZ and moved to the Glendale area to pursue their doctorate of dentistry degrees at Midwestern University.

These dentists all have the most gorgeous smiles, of course! Could anyone doubt it?
So glad Doctor's Natalia, George, and Grace from the Arrowhead Family Dentistry team choose Anjeanette Photography for headshots.

Inviting first impressions at

Arizona Public Service

Nothing beats a sincere smile for making a positive impression! I was so happy to meet with Hui Wu Curtis of APS for her professional headshots a few weeks ago, her bright open smile was a perfect compliment to her customer service profession. She was getting updated pro photos to accompany a recent article she wrote on Shaping the Customer Experience (click here for article)

The immediate first impression is someone you can count on and trust, a person passionate about people and results as her LinkedIn profile says.

Later I was able to help put together a leadership team portrait session in just a few hours right in the convenience of the office.

Anjeanette came in and did professional headshots for my entire leadership team. First wave, we had 25+ leaders and they all said they had a great time. She made the process very easy and captured everyone’s best look! The headshots all turned out absolutely wonderful and we are bringing her back to do another session for the rest of my leadership team. True professional with a great eye in capturing the best in people. Couldn’t be more pleased with the results and is a great way to compliment my team’s professional development. Thank you Anjeanette!

Do you make a positive unforgettable business impression?

Researchers out of Princeton University have found that people make judgments about such things as trustworthiness, competence, and likeability within a fraction of a second after seeing someone’s face.
— Psychology Today with News at Princeton

In fact, Princeton pschologists found that we make judgments about people within 100 milliseconds to seven seconds of meeting them. About the length of time you view a profile pictures as you scroll through the "people you may know" connection section on Linkedin.

Both Psychology Today and Donald Miller in his book Building a Storybrand have identified the importance of the ability to quickly recognize the expression on a strangers’ face and the intent- in essence, a good first impression was and still is a survival instinct!

A professional portrait that portrays the image that presents you in the best possible light is a must for creative businesses and successful entrepreneurs according to Peter Economy- a modern #professionalheadshot can immediately influence how well a business is perceived.

Invest in an image that will attract the right clients to your artistic or business endeavors!

Make a great first impression that will take you beyond those first few seconds and on to gaining respect—and maybe even a new job or client.
